When Deby Pan, a Senior Account Exec for Coach, and her husband set out to redesign their East Village apartment, they wanted to make sure it felt warm and inviting, and reflected their shared sense of wanderlust. “We love to travel, and we're both the product of immigrant parents. His parents came to the U.S. from India, and mine came over from Taiwan.” Deby said. When they moved in, the apartment immediately reminded Deby of her office: “a white, sterile environment” dominated by white and silver.

“When I came home, I wanted it to be a 180-degree change. We're both drawn to items with a bit of an Asian flavor, like buddhas, warm colors, and darker woods, but with a more modern sensibility," Deby said. She told designer Amanda Gorski that she dreamed of incorporating splashes of bright color, warm materials, and fun patterns. So, Gorski also installed a built-in bookcase in the living room, complete with a rolling library ladder for an extra dose of old-world charm. “It's like an amusement park ride for people with space constraints.” Mission accomplished.
